#IWILL Youth Art Project

The Halifax Academy and Artworks are working together to deliver a social action youth art project.

Over the course of a year, 12 students will be invited to consider how they can use art to affect positive change in their own lives and the lives of others, now and in the future.The project will provide students with specialist training and support from socially engaged artist practitioners who will work with the students to discover ways to think, express and communicate their ideas visually. At the end of the project students will share their work during an exhibition at Artworks (August 2020) which will be envisaged, organised and delivered by them through volunteering, fundraising and campaign work.

The project has been made possible thanks to funding from Calderdale Community Foundation and the #IWILL Youth Social Action Campaign who tell us that;

All young people should be supported and empowered to be active citizens. That’s why the #iwill campaign, supported by over 1,000 organisations from across the UK, aims to make participation in social action – such as volunteering, fundraising, mentoring and campaigning – the norm for young people aged 10 to 20.
Young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. They have the energy, skills and ideas to change society and the environment for the better today. Yet society often fails to listen to young people’s views or recognise their ability to make a positive difference. This is particularly the case for young people from low-income communities.
