Our Patron: Sir Quentin Blake CBE

We are delighted to have  Sir Quentin Blake CBE as the principal Patron of our Everybody School of Art, here in Halifax.

“Over the years I have come to learn the power of drawing and the surprising effect it can have: on morale, judgement, mental health and our general wellbeing. Many people are not aware of this, but The Artworks wonderfully does, and is brilliant at putting the knowledge into action for the benefit of everybody. It’s a privilege to be associated with such an energetic and inspiring institution.”

- Sir Quentin Blake CBE

Quentin's patronage will support our organisation in its commitment to deliver high quality arts provision for all, regardless of age, ability or background. By combining classic techniques with inspirational approaches we have the joy of witnessing first hand the transformational effects of art on people's lives every day. We see art connect people to themselves through the discovery of talents and by developing confidence. We find art also connects us to each other as we discover shared passions and interests. All of this takes place through our programme of courses, workshops, events, training and exhibitions delivered by practising artists.

This powerful endorsement comes as we launch our sponsorship programme which brings benefits to those least likely to engage with the arts. We will build on our relationships with partners, community groups, local schools, universities and the NHS to deliver activities designed specifically for health and education contexts, creating valuable opportunity and engagement with art. Supporters of this programme will have the added benefit of seeing their donation support the talents of emerging and established artists as we design and deliver inspiring creative arts projects. Together we work to engage those with the least access to the arts to ensure creative talent is discovered, nurtured and allowed to flourish.

Quentin’s role as chair for the Campaign for Drawing combined with all his work in hospitals makes him a perfect fit with our organisation. We can now proudly point to the illustrious name of this truly great artist, close friend and supporter of the work we do here at Artworks.
